Mathematics

A number of options are available for students in Year 10 Mathematics, with consideration given to student interests and ability:

Year 10 Pre-Methods Mathematics is a year-long subject that is designed to prepare students for VCE Mathematical Methods (and VCE Specialist Mathematics). Topics covered include (but are not limited to): Algebra (Linear and non-linear relationships); Trigonometry and the Unit Circle; Probability and Statistics; and, Indices and Logarithms. Students in pre-Methods Maths will have the opportunity to undertake any of the VCE mathematics subjects in the following year depending on grades achieved in Year 10 pre-Methods Mathematics.

Year 10 Pre-General Mathematics is a year-long subject that is designed to prepare students for VCE General Mathematics (Year 11) and VCE Further Mathematics (Year 12). Topics covered include (but not limited to): Pythagoras and Trigonometry; Financial Arithmetic; Linear Relationships; Statistics; and, Geometry and Measurement. Students in pre-General Mathematics will be able to undertake VCE General and Further Mathematics depending on grades achieved in Year 10 pre-General Mathematics.

Please note that students who have successfully completed Year 9 Accelerated Mathematics in the previous year will have the opportunity to undertake VCE Mathematical Methods Units 1 and 2 instead of the Year 10 mathematics options described above.
