Subject Description

In Wood students develop skills in investigation, design, production and evaluation of their work, using a variety of materials. In the process of learning to construct a product, the safe use of equipment and care of tools is developed. Students learn to cut with a range of saws use adhesives and make accurate measurement of components for the product being constructed. An introduction is also given on the use of some powered drilling equipment under guided supervision. The theory component and assignments are include a design brief, safety equipment and behaviour in the workplace, along with the types of tools that are used in the Woodwork area. Students also develop skills by completing a range of drawing projects that are developed in 3D along with an introduction to pencil rendering of products.

  • Purchasing of materials using a cutting list, and the correct method of ordering hardware.
  • Construct a model that will required specified and detailed quantities of timber and hardware, so that students can cost the entire model.
  • Construct a model that will make use of major power tools.
  • Develop knowledge of and use of a variety of power tools and their safety features.
