Welcome to the Junior Campus of Emmaus College, where a lifelong love of learning begins, and every child is known, valued, and supported to flourish.
The journey of learning begins in the Junior Campus, where students in Prep (Foundation) to Year 6 take their first steps into a world of discovery, curiosity, and growth. These formative years are crucial in laying the academic, social, and emotional foundations that will support future learning and success.

At Emmaus College, we are dedicated to nurturing every child’s potential through a rich, engaging, and developmentally appropriate curriculum. Our Junior Years program fosters a love of learning by encouraging exploration, creativity, and critical thinking across all key Learning Areas.
We recognise the importance of building strong literacy and numeracy skills while also celebrating the unique talents and interests of each student. Our goal is to help students become confident, capable learners who are well-prepared for the years ahead.
The curriculum at Emmaus College is thoughtfully designed to ensure students engage with all Learning Areas, fostering a well-rounded and enriching educational experience. Our timetable operates on a two-week cycle (10 days) and is structured into six 50-minute lessons per day, providing ample time for meaningful learning in each subject.
The Junior Years are also a time when children begin to form a sense of self, relationships with others, and an understanding of the world around them. Our supportive and caring environment, combined with a strong focus on Social Emotional Learning (SEL), helps students to develop resilience, empathy, and confidence. Through a balanced approach to learning, we aim to cultivate independent thinkers who are also compassionate members of our community.
We value the partnership between home and school, recognising that strong communication and collaboration are key to a child’s development. Our dedicated staff make themselves available to support families and work together to ensure the best outcomes for every student.
Reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation are essential learning elements for all students to develop their love of the English language.
Mathematics provides students with essential mathematical knowledge, skills, procedures and processes to develop their love of problem solving.
Students learn the skills and knowledge to actively participate in sport promoting physical health, teamwork, and personal development.
All students learn Italian. Speaking, listening and reading Italian in engaging and fun ways.
Each child is taught how to be salt and light in their world. Positive wellbeing strategies are also learnt by each child.
The Art curriculum gives students ways to imagine and explore their creativity. It enriches students social and emotional wellbeing.
An inquiry approach to the study of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Humanities engages students in solving real-life problem solving.
All students study drama, dance and music. An instrumental music program is introduced at Year 3, where all students learn a musical instrument as part of the curriculum.
Student Leadership
Student Leadership is also a valued component of the Junior Years. Opportunities for leadership are embedded within the life of the school, encouraging students to take on responsibilities, contribute to decision-making, and develop skills in communication, collaboration, and service. Students are supported to grow as confident and capable leaders through roles such as Junior Campus Captains, House Captains, Liturgy Captain, Wellbeing Captain, Social Justice Captain, Fire Carrier Captain, Academic Captain, Environmental Captain, and Arts Captain. .
Each of these roles is linked to a student leadership committee, where students work together to plan and implement initiatives that enhance school life and reflect the College’s values. These committees provide a collaborative space for students to share ideas, lead by example, and take meaningful action in areas such as student wellbeing, sustainability, social justice, academic enrichment, and the arts. Through their participation, students gain firsthand experience in leadership, teamwork, and service to others, laying a strong foundation for their future contributions within and beyond the school community.

PASTORAL CARE
Pastoral care is a demonstration of profound respect for the human dignity of each person who is created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1: 26–27). This call to respect each person is inspired by the sacred Scriptures and brought to life by the person of Jesus Christ.
Jesus’ life and teachings show all people ‘the way, the truth and the life’ (John 14: 6), inviting each to fullness (John 10:10). Throughout the Gospel, Jesus illuminates for us how we are called to live out our mission, approach our work and conduct our relationships with love, hope, dignity, compassion and forgiveness.
The Church’s teachings are central to the moral, legal and mission driven responsibility of all members of Emmaus College to create nurturing environments where children and young people are respected, their voices heard and where they are safe and feel safe.
All relationships, including those with students, staff and parents/guardians, are built on unconditional positive regard. Every person has a responsibility to understand the integral role they play, individually and collectively. Nurturing the pastoral care, wellbeing and safety of all children and young people is at the forefront of all we do and every decision that we make.
