Music has the capacity to engage, inspire and enrich the learning experiences of all students. It provides an outlet for student’s creativity, their expressive potential and enhances the wellbeing of all students involved. At Emmaus College, students from Year 3 begin to learn a musical instrument and they participate in a concert band program, learning a variety of woodwind, string, voice brass and rhythm section instruments. Students also engage various forms of music technology to enhance their music literacy, create original compositions and study the role of music in film.
In addition to the classroom music program, individual instrumental tuition is available across a wide range of instruments. These lessons are run on a rotating basis during class time, to avoid repeated interruptions to the same class subject. Students who participate in private instrument tuition, also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of music workshop days, featuring guest performers, masterclasses and clinics.
Tuition is available on the following instruments:

Our College ensembles are provided with many performance opportunities and keep busy performance schedules throughout the year. Ensembles regularly perform at soiree nights, music concerts and official College and community events. Many of our ensembles also participate in external band and vocal competitions, and contribute to the College’s annual recording project, where ensembles record an album of songs at our in-house recording studio.
