Emmaus College is a proudly Catholic, Christ-centred community that strives to live out the Gospel in word, action, and relationship. Grounded in Christian love and respect, our school is a place of accompaniment and welcome, where all are called to care for others and work towards a more just and compassionate world.
Through the Religious Education curriculum, students are encouraged to explore, question, and deepen their understanding of the essential elements of the Christian faith. The Year 7–10 program fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and meaningful engagement with Catholic beliefs and traditions, while also exploring their relationship with other religious and secular worldviews. In the senior years, students can choose from a range of Religious Education pathways, including a school-based program, VCE Religion and Society (Units 1–4), or VCE Text and Traditions (Units 1–4).
The prayer, sacramental, and liturgical life of Emmaus is vibrant and central. Students participate in whole-school Masses, House liturgies, and special events such as Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, and the Month of Remembrance. Each gathering begins with an Acknowledgement of Country and a prayer rich in scripture and symbolism. Our liturgies are brought to life through music ministry and strong student involvement, making faith an active and shared experience for the whole community.
“I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)
At Emmaus College, students engage in a rich faith formation journey designed to connect, inspire, and nurture their unique gifts as future leaders. Through retreats, reflection days, and workshops, students are invited to explore their spirituality and deepen their sense of purpose.
Working in partnership with trusted external facilitators such as the Passionists, Youth Mission Team (YMT), and the GB (Gen Bryant) Team, students in Years 8 to 10 participate in engaging and reflective programs that promote connection, compassion, and community.
A key highlight of the program is the Year 12 Retreat - a three-day, off-site experience that marks the beginning of students’ final year. It offers time and space for reflection, spiritual growth, and renewed purpose.
Students at Emmaus are also supported to be involved in broader Church events, including World Youth Day, the Australian Catholic Youth Festival, and the ACU Leaders Program. These opportunities deepen faith and connect students to the wider Church community.
Inspired by the words and example of Jesus, the college community is called to be a witness of Christ’s love and justice through authentic faith in action. Inspired by the 2015 papal encyclical Laudato Si’, our Student Social Justice, FIRE Carrier, Environment, and Liturgy Committees have embarked on a shared journey to cultivate a culture of ecological conversion, mindful of our responsibility to future generations. Across all year levels, students are actively involved in meaningful opportunities that foster a deep sense of stewardship for the Earth, while recognising the sacred dignity and interconnectedness of all people.
Led by our Committee Captains and Student Representative Committees (SRC), through several annual events and awareness raising campaigns, the college actively supports Caritas Australia, the St Vincent De Paul Society, Christmas on the Streets (COTS), Opening the Doors Foundation, Edmund Rice Foundation, McAuley Community Services for Women, Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project, Mackillop Family Services and Catholic EarthCare.
