Education Support

As a Catholic Co-educational Regional College, Emmaus aims to provide a supportive environment which caters for students with a wide range of abilities. Our whole school approach towards meeting the needs of a diverse population reflects our shared commitment to improving the learning outcome of all students.

We focus on producing young adults who are creative thinkers and who are equipped with skills in critical thinking, and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with others in all aspects of their future lives.

Following regular reviews of student performance data and other information the Learning Support Department collaborates and consults with subject teachers to identify and plan for those students who may need a differentiated program and to implement support processes where appropriate. A student may receive supplementary teaching, additional resources, extra time or one to one explicit guidance from a Learning Support Assistant.

Emmaus College offers students the opportunity to attend extra help sessions, during lunch break and after school, in both English and Maths. The Learning Support Department also offer lunch time Study skills sessions to Year 9 students and Study Support for Senior School students every Wednesday afternoon.

The main aim of these implemented strategies and structures is to build individual’s self –efficacy and to assist the students in realising their full potential by providing them with the tools to become life long, responsible learners.
