Year 7

Emmaus College Year Seven students come to us from over 40 different primary schools, with the transition to secondary school offering challenges and many opportunities.
At Emmaus, our aim is for our new Year Seven students to feel safe, comfortable and confident in a new and very different environment.
Under the care and guidance of Homeroom teachers, students are taken through a transition programme to introduce them to the procedures, protocols and culture of Emmaus College.
Students are assisted in developing organisation skills, initiative and self-management as they negotiate new subjects, timetables and lockers, and experience sharing their days with over 200 other Year Seven students.
Year Seven students study an extensive curriculum including Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, Information Technology, History, Geography, Physical Education, Art, Drama, Music and a range of Technology subjects
Year Seven students learn that the rules which guide our conduct are founded firmly on respect:  respect for self and respect for all who share their days at Emmaus College.

Orientation Camp – Rawson 2009
Emmaus College’s Transition Programme culminates in our Year Seven Orientation Camp.
In the last week of February, Year Seven students travelled to camp at Rawson, in Gippsland, to learn more about themselves, and their new classmates and teachers.
Over the three days spent at Rawson, students stepped into the dark of Walhalla’s old gold mine, experiencing what it was like for those hoping to strike it lucky at the turn of the century;
explored the cemetery, filled with those whose luck had deserted them;
enjoyed the placid ride of the old narrow gauge railway, and the wilder ride of four wheel driving down steep inclines and through river passes;
performed at the camp concert and danced to the Village People’s classic YMCA at Mr Walpole’s famous trivia night.
And along the way Year Seven students made new friends and strengthened existing friendships.
The excitement and enthusiasm brought by our new Year Sevens was infectious, and their good manners and good behaviour was most impressive.  A highly promising year beckons.

Extra-curricular Activities
In 2009, Year Seven students have already represented Emmaus in EISM and Champions Carnival Swimming and Athletics. They have auditioned successfully for roles in the school production, The Wiz; performed in class plays for audiences of over 200 people; and begun individual musical instrument tuition through Emmaus’ extensive music programme.
In Term 3 Year Seven students will begin representing the College in the EISM Winter Competition in football, netball, soccer, basketball and many more sports.
