Year 10
Year 10 provides our students with many opportunities to immerse themselves in the college community whether by undertaking a leadership role, participating in school sport teams, school production or one of the other many avenues for participation during the school year.
At year 10, students study a mix of core subjects and electives. Students are also given the opportunity to include VCE units in their course of study in year 10.
Social
A prominent fixture in the year 10 calendar is the Social. The event is managed by the Social Planning Committee, which is comprised of students, lead by the college captains and under the guidance of the Year Level Coordinator. The Committee decides on the theme, venue and date of the event. The students in the Committee are provided with the opportunity to utilize their planning skills to arrange food, soft drinks, lights and decorations, and to hire a DJ and professional photographer.
Traditionally, the year 10 Social is held on the last night of semester one, and marks the beginning of the mid-year holidays. Themes in previous years have included Hollywood and Moulin Rouge. The Social is always a much anticipated night for the year 10 student body, and is seen by the students as a highlight of the year.
Work Experience
In year 10, Emmaus students embark on one week of work experience. Students use the week to sample the lifestyle they would expect if they were to pursue a certain career path. Placements have been found in various industries, with students working everywhere, including law firms, construction companies, banks and hospitals.
The school’s careers counselor guides the students through the application process. Regardless of the industry they choose, all students learn skills, including how to apply for employment, while gaining invaluable references for their resumes.
