Burwood Years 11-12
The Burwood Campus is located on Warrigal road in Burwood, next door to St Benedict’s Church and parish Primary School. The Campus accommodates some 360 students in Years 11 and 12, most of whom are undertaking the Victorian Certificate of Education, with a smaller group completing the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning. While the Burwood Campus is small in size it offers a range of facilities that complement the teaching and learning program and provides some recreational spaces.
The Burwood Campus has a Physics laboratory which also houses Systems Engineering, and one each of a Chemistry and Biology laboratory. A fully equipped kitchen allows for Food Technology to be taught as part of the VCE program and a Hall that can seat two hundred on the floor and a further one hundred and twenty five in a mezzanine area serves as an gathering area for both year level and general assemblies, wet weather alternative, and for activities such as concerts, drama performances, table tennis, SRC initiatives, displays and exams. The Year 12 students have access to a Common Room which affords them the opportunity to gather at lunchtime to toast sandwiches and enjoy a ‘cuppa’.
The teaching of Textiles at both VCE and TAFE level is facilitated by the availability of a fully equipped textiles room; Art and Visual Communication and Design are also accommodated at the Campus. Two computer rooms containing twenty five computers each can be booked for classes, as can a portable collection of laptops. A library serves the campus and a number of general classrooms have electronic whiteboards and data projectors installed, while some rooms have standalone data projectors.
The site also provides a small gymnasium for staff and student use at lunchtime, after school and for Physical Education classes; a basketball court is also used for Physical Education and provides a recreation area for students at recess and lunchtime. Over time the VCAL students have constructed a gazebo and rotunda, and a brick built -in BBQ as part of their program, as well as a mosaic to beautify the Campus foyer. The BBQ is located in the Green Area of the Campus which is a passive recreation area containing seats and tables under the shade provided by large trees. Students are able to use the asphalt area at the front of the school for more active pursuits such as kicking the football.
